In one day from Busan, do three things on Geoje: the garden island of Oedo, the sea cliffs of Haegeumgang, and the Windy Hill headland. Geoje is Korea's second-largest island, too big to see properly in a day, so this plan sticks to the signature sights and skips the rush.
Before you go
- Getting there: there's no train to Geoje. From Busan, take an intercity bus (about 1 hour from Sasang) or drive across the Geoga Bridge. A car makes the day far easier, since sights are spread out.
- Book the boats first: the Oedo ferry and Haegeumgang cruise are the fixed points of the day and fill up on weekends. Departures shift with weather and season, so confirm current times locally and reserve where you can.
- Best seasons: late spring and autumn, for calm seas and clear skies.
The one-day route
Morning: Oedo Botania
Start with Geoje's showpiece, a private garden island of topiary, pavilions and sea views, reached by ferry (usually from Jangseungpo or Gujora). Give it 2 to 3 hours including the boat ride. Many cruises bundle Oedo with Haegeumgang on one ticket.
Midday: Haegeumgang
Right next door, Haegeumgang is a cluster of steep sea rocks best seen from the water, often on the same cruise as Oedo. Head back to the port for a seafood lunch afterward.
Afternoon: Windy Hill and a sea-view cafe
Drive up to Windy Hill, a grassy headland with a small windmill and wide coast views. It's the island's most photographed spot, and it lives up to the name, so hold onto your hat. Then stop at one of Geoje's sea-view cafes before the drive back.
Short on time? Oedo and Haegeumgang on a single cruise, then Windy Hill, is the efficient core. Add the Sinseondae cliff viewpoint if you have a spare hour.
Where to eat
Geoje runs on seafood: grilled fish, sashimi (hoe), and maeuntang, a spicy fish stew. Ports like Jangseungpo have restaurants clustered near the ferry terminals, so eat where the boats come in.
Make it two days
An overnight lets you slow down. Add Sinseondae and Hakdong Mongdol Beach, watch the sunset from the coast, and fold in nearby Tongyeong (cable car and luge) for a proper south-coast loop.
